Five considerations for using thermocouples

Thermocouple is a developing high-precision measurement sensor and a very economical product. It has become a widely used type of temperature measuring element. It directly measures the temperature, converts the temperature signal into a thermoelectric potential signal, converts the temperature signal into a thermoelectric potential signal through an electrical measuring instrument, and then converts it into a temperature signal of the measured medium. In order to improve measurement accuracy, reduce measurement errors and prolong service life, users must not only have instrument operation skills, but also have physical, chemical and material knowledge. According to the practical experience of our thermocouple manufacturer for many years, the measurement error of thermocouple and its precautions are introduced in detail, so as to make better use of thermocouple. In the process of using thermocouples, the following five issues should be paid attention to: 1. The degree of thermocouples must be consistent with the thermocouples required by the temperature measurement and control instruments used. 2. Reasonably select the material and diameter of the thermocouple housing to ensure sufficient strength and adapt to the ambient gas to be measured. Housing surfaces should be kept clean. If the surface is contaminated, the thermal resistance will increase and the measured temperature will be lower than the actual temperature. 3. The thermocouple should be installed as far as possible away from the strong magnetic field environment to avoid high-power power lines and avoid introducing additional interference signals into the thermometer. 4. The thermocouple cannot work for a long time at high allowable temperature, otherwise it will cause the change of the thermocouple material, increase the measurement error and damage the thermocouple. To reduce the thermal inertia of thermocouples at low temperatures, bottom impact thermocouples or outcropping thermocouples can be used. 5. Regularly check whether the electrodes and shell are in good condition. If the local diameter of the conduit is found to be thinned or the surface is corroded, it should be stopped immediately and a new thermocouple should be replaced. After the thermocouple is damaged, the damaged end can be taken out, or the measuring end can be adjusted to the reference end, re-welded, and can be used continuously after verification. The use of thermocouples is mainly based on the requirements of the field environment. Improper handling may result in temperature difference or thermocouple damage. In specific use, it is necessary to communicate in detail with the thermocouple manufacturer to understand the performance and characteristics of the thermocouple to ensure normal use.
