broken mercury thermometer

My 4 year old fell to pieces in the kitchen.
I wiped it with soap and water and looked for silver balls on the floor and found nothing.
I also opened the window just in case.
I was just freaking out because I couldn\'t find any spills.
Should I assume it doesn\'t overflow from the thermometer?

If these thermometers contain enough mercury to cause huge problems, I don\'t think the FDA will allow the public to use them in our house, especially in glass.

I got it from my parents, so I\'m pretty sure it\'s Mercury.

I remember my sister playing with Mercury on a broken thermometer while we were kids.
She is now in her 40 s and she lives well. :)

You can\'t clean up if you\'re pregnant.
You should turn off any circulating air (Fan, air conditioning, heating).
You should open the window before cleaning and ventilate the place for 15 minutes.
You should wear gloves.
You can\'t vacuum, you can\'t sweep, you can\'t use metal dustpan.
You should clean everything you collect and throw away with wet paper towels and double packs.
You should then ventilate in this area for a few hours.
It\'s just for a hard surface to break.
Can you imagine the carpet?
That\'s why I will never have a CFL bulb.
I bought enough incandescent lamps for me to use 20. 30 years.
