The "Aesthetic Air Component" of Public Architecture: How Fabric Ducts Turn Air Supply into Spatial Language

In public buildings such as shopping malls, stadiums, exhibition centers, and airport terminals, HVAC systems were once routinely hidden above ceilings—the prevailing mindset being "as long as it delivers air, aesthetics don't matter." Today, however, public spaces compete on dwell time and user experience: customers don't want to be blasted by cold drafts, audience seating must be free of noticeable temperature differences, and cleaner, simpler ceilings are perceived as more premium. Traditional "metal duct + diffuser" point-based air supply suffers from few outlets, high velocity, and short-circuiting airflow—easily creating an unpleasant "draft sensation" while turning ceilings into a jungle of pipes.   • Stadiums and Exhibition Centers:​ Different thermal loads exist in stands, courts, and entrance halls. Variable hole density enables zoned air supply, eliminating "cold spots" or "heat islands" in distant areas. Temperature differences within a 30-meter span can be compressed to within ±1°C.
  • Transport Hubs and Temporary Exhibitions:​ Aluminum rail suspension and zipper-segmented sections allow installation within hours during overnight work. After the event, the entire duct can be removed, stored, and reused—ideal for "fast-build, fast-tear-down" temporary spaces.

It is important to note that fire safety is a critical concern in public buildings. Fabric ducts must use B1-class flame-retardant fibers​ and be specified with anti-bacterial, anti-mold, or anti-UV versions depending on the application. As public architecture shifts from "functional delivery" to "experiential delivery," fiber fabric ducts are no longer a supporting player—they use a single soft tube to seamlessly weave together air, light, space, and brand identity.
