The "Exhibition-Ready Component" of Public Architecture: How Fabric Ducts Adapt to High-Frequency Space Transformations

In modern public buildings, the logic of space usage has shifted from "fixed function" to "high-frequency switching." Shopping mall atriums change themes, art galleries rearrange exhibitions, conference centers host three different events in a single day, and library zones are constantly reconfigured. Traditional metal ducts are welded into the ceiling; modifying an air outlet requires cutting, repainting, and re-insulating—generating construction waste and forcing the space to shut down for days. Fiber Fabric Ducts, however, come with built-in "exhibition properties": the duct body can be disassembled, replaced, and rearranged like display materials, allowing the ventilation terminal to evolve along with the spatial narrative.

The core conflict in public building operations lies in the tension between "fixed hard decoration" and "fluid content." Metal systems serve a single original floor plan; once the business format changes, the original diffusers become misplaced resources. Fabric ducts utilize aluminum rail suspension, zipper-segmented sections, and variable-permeability modules: tonight it's a book fair, and the ducts distribute uniform airflow along the exhibition aisles; tomorrow morning it's a forum—remove two sections, shift the suspension points, and the air supply focus moves to the stage and seating area. The entire process requires no welding torches or scaffolding; work is done overnight and delivered by dawn.

Its "exhibition value" is most evident in three types of spaces:

  • Commercial Atriums & Pop-Up Zones: Seasonal decorations and brand pop-ups often last only two weeks. Fabric ducts can be installed synchronously with the exhibition setup and stored away upon dismantling, ready to be reused for next year's theme—offering a far higher asset reuse rate than one-time metal components.
  • Museums & Art Galleries: Different exhibits have varying requirements for temperature and humidity sensitivity zones. By replacing duct sections with different permeabilities, the same ceiling system can switch between "painting mode," "sculpture mode," and "temporary exhibition mode," avoiding the need to rebuild HVAC terminals for every special exhibition.
  • Conference Centers & Multi-Function Halls: Banquets, product launches, and examination setups each have different requirements for air supply uniformity and noise levels. The sound-absorbing fabric wall and soft air output, combined with movable rails, make "multi-use in one hall" truly viable at the environmental control level.

Public building projects must still uphold safety底线 (baselines): use B1-class flame-retardant fibers and select anti-bacterial, anti-mold, or anti-UV versions based on the space. During the design phase, CFD simulations should also model "future reconfigurations" to avoid sacrificing uniformity for flexibility.

As public buildings begin operating like "content platforms," fiber fabric ducts are no longer just ducts—they are the invisible partners of spatial curation, ensuring that airflow follows the crowd and the duct follows the story.
